EDITION 2020 CANCELLED
This event pays tribute to the Bailli de Suffren of Saint-Tropez, Vice-Admiral of the Royal Navy under King Louis XVI, and Grand Cross and Captain-General of the Sovereign Order of Malta.
The Bailli is an offshore race for classic yachts of around 584 nautical miles. It takes participants from Saint-Tropez to Valletta (Malta), calling in on the way for festive fun at Porto Rotondo (Sardinia) and Sciacca (Sicily).
The event is open to classic or spirit of tradition yachts (cruisers) over 11 metres in length. There needs to be at least three competitors in each class.
The event is organised by the Marenostrum Racing Club (Saint-Tropez), Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez, Yacht Club Porto Rotondo (Sardinia), the Club Nautico Corallo & Lega Navale Italiana/Sciacca and the Royal Malta Yacht Club (Valletta, Malta), with support from the host towns, namely Saint-Tropez, Porto Rotondo, Sciacca and Valletta.
Spirit of the race
Above all this regatta-cruise aims to be a “gentleman’s race”, in other words a friendly competition between exceptional boats. Although of course it is “nice to win”, the emphasis is on the pleasure of sailing together and calling into privileged places in the Mediterranean, all in compliance with Fair Sailing (ISAF), the Corinthian Spirit (IYCP), La Belle Classe charter (YCM), the environment (Eco-actions) of the “Citizen of the Sea” (SNSM), safety regulations (FFV, CIM, TBS), and naval etiquette (YCF) and “Décalogue du Gentleman Sailor” (TBS).
Dress code for the evening receptions ashore: the boat’s uniform, or blazer, white shirt, club tie and white trousers.
